If you’ve ever tried contouring and thought… why does this feel so complicated now? You’re not alone.
As our skin changes after 40, the makeup techniques we used in our 20s and 30s don’t always give us the same results. Heavy layers, harsh lines, and overly sculpted looks can actually make the skin look more textured instead of lifted. That’s why so many women are rethinking their approach to contour.
As a certified makeup artist, I’m breaking down Seint contour vs. cream contour from Olive Rose to see which method is actually easier, more flattering, and better suited for mature skin.
Because the goal isn’t to look more made up… it’s to look more lifted, natural, and like yourself again.
FAQs
- What is the difference between Seint contour vs. Olive Rose cream contour? Seint contour is part of a cream-based palette system designed to simplify your routine by combining multiple products in one compact. Olive Rose cream contour comes in stick form and can be drawn on the face and blended with a brush.
- Does Seint contour work well for mature skin? Seint contour can work well for mature skin when applied lightly and blended properly. Its cream formula is designed to be buildable and create dimension without looking heavy, especially when paired with good skin prep.
- Why does contour sometimes look harsh after 40? Contour can look harsh when: too much product is used, placement is too low on the face, or blending isn’t soft enough. After 40, less product and higher placement create a more lifted, flattering look.
- Is cream contour better than powder contour for mature skin? Cream contour tends to look more natural and hydrating, while powder can sometimes emphasize texture or dryness. Cream formulas create softer shadows that mimic real skin.
- Can beginners use contour easily? Yes! But simpler methods work best. Many women find that using fewer products and focusing on strategic placement (instead of full-face contouring) makes the biggest difference. Check out my Contour Guide for a simple method that anyone can master.
What Contour Is Meant to Do for the Face (Especially After 40)
Contour isn’t meant to completely change your face. Contour is simply about creating soft shadows to bring back shape, shadow, and dimension to the face.
What Contour Really Does
Think of contour as a little optical illusion.
Contour helps to:
- define your features
- add depth where your face naturally has shadows
- and subtly enhance your bone structure
By placing slightly deeper tones in certain areas (like on the cheekbones or along the jawline), you’re mimicking natural shadows to sculpt and shape the face in a soft, believable and natural way.
Why This Matters More After 40
As we get older, our face naturally changes:
- we lose a bit of structure and definition
- everything can look a little softer or flatter
- the “lift” we once had isn’t as noticeable
Contour helps bring that back…but in a very different way than when we were younger.
The Goal Changes After 40
In your 20s and 30s, contour was often about: sharp definition and sculpted cheekbones
After 40, it becomes about: lifting the face, adding softness and dimension, looking more refreshed…not more made up
The Key to Making It Work
The most important shift is less product, better placement.
When contour is applied lightly, blended well, and placed slightly higher on the face, it creates that natural, lifted look we’re all going for. Because the goal isn’t for someone to notice your contour…it’s for them to say, “You look so good… what did you do differently?”
What Is the Seint Cream Contour System?
Seint makeup is a customizable compact makeup system. You can choose the size of your palette and fill it with the exact products and shades you want and need. The palette is magnetic and the tins are metal so you can easily remove and replace products when they are empty or when you want to change it up.
The one compact makeup system can hold: highlight, contour, blush, bronzer, powder, lip, eyeshadow, and eyeliner…everything you need for a full face of makeup!
Seint contour comes in 14 shades, making it very color inclusive!

What Is Olive Rose Cream Contour?
Olive Rose HT Shaping Contour is a waterless skincare infused makeup stick. It’s the first ever makeup with hydroxytyrosol in it that helps nourish the skin. It contains hydroxytyrosol & olive actives, castor & jojoba oils, plant waxes, and mineral pigments. It’s a creamy balm-to-cream stick that gives a natural skin-like finish.
You can apply the contour stick directly to your face and blend or wipe a brush on the stick and apply the contour with a brush.
Olive Rose contour only comes in 4 shades, with more shades coming in the future.

Seint Contour vs. Olive Rose Contour: Texture, Blendability, and Finish
Let’s compare Seint contour and Olive Rose contour…
Texture
- Seint: in the tin it is stiff and hard, but on the face it is creamy
- Olive Rose: it has a silky smooth texture
Blendability
- Seint: Seint contour is stiffer and requires the product to be warm in order to apply and blend smoothly.
- Olive Rose: it blends like butter!
Finish
- Seint: it has a matte finish but it melts into the skin looking natural
- Olive Rose: it has a little more shine for the finish, giving your skin a healthy glow
Which Contour Is Easier for Beginners?
As a makeup artist, I have worked with lots of different contouring products. I’ve been using Seint contour on myself and on my makeup clients for almost a decade. But when I started using the Olive Rose HT Shaping Contour stick, I was blown away by the ease of using it! It applies and blends so beautifully!
I personally think that the Olive Rose contour is more user friendly. I like to refer to it as contouring for dummies. It’s so so easy to use! All you need is the contour stick and a contour brush and you can contour in minutes!

Which Contour Works Best for Mature Skin?
Since Seint contour and Olive Rose contour are both creams, they both work great on mature skin. Seint contour is a bit more temperamental and does better when it’s warmer so it can apply smoother. But both have great staying power and both look very natural on mature skin.
Common Contour Mistakes That Age Your Face (and How to Fix Them)
Contour can be one of the most powerful ways to lift and define your face…but if it’s done the wrong way, it can actually make you look older instead of more refreshed. Here are the most common mistakes I see…and how to fix them.
Applying Too Much Product
This is probably the #1 mistake when it comes to Seint contour vs. cream contour. Too much contour creates heavy, harsh shadows that sit on top of the skin instead of blending into it.
Fix: Start with less than you think you need and build slowly. Thin layers give a more natural, lifted look.
Placing Contour Too Low
If your contour sits too low on your cheeks, it actually drags your face downward.
Fix: Place contour slightly higher…closer on the cheekbone…and blend upward toward the temples to create lift.
Harsh, Unblended Lines
Sharp lines can make your makeup look obvious and accentuate texture.
Fix: Blend, blend, blend. Use a sponge or brush to soften edges until it melts into your skin seamlessly. Poor blending is one of the biggest reasons contour looks unnatural.
Using the Wrong Shade
A contour that’s too warm can look muddy, and one that’s too dark can look harsh.
Fix: Choose a shade just slightly deeper than your skin tone with a cooler undertone to mimic a natural shadow.
Using Too Much Product on Mature Skin
Heavy makeup settles into fine lines and emphasizes texture.
Fix: Keep it light and strategic. Less product, placed intentionally, will always look more youthful than a full sculpted face.
Skipping Skin Prep
If your skin is dry or not prepped, contour can cling to texture and look patchy.
Fix: Start with hydrated, well-prepped skin so everything blends smoothly and looks more natural. Check out this simple 3-step skincare routine.
My Honest Recommendation
I used Seint cream contour for a decade! I loved it! And I still like it. But, I personally now prefer Olive Rose contour. It’s just so easy to use! It applies and blends so beautifully. It has great staying power and it looks very natural.

At the end of the day, choosing between Seint contour vs. cream contour isn’t about which one is “better”it’s about what feels easier and more natural for you. After 40, makeup should work with your skin, not against it.
The best contour is the one that:
- blends easily
- feels lightweight
- and gives you that soft, lifted look without overthinking it
Because you’re not trying to completely change your face…you’re just enhancing what’s already there. And when it’s simple and effortless? That’s when it actually works.
