It’s always a little intimidating trying something new…especially a new makeup routine! But, I’m not joking when I say that Maskcara makeup is so extremely easy to use! Beginners

Since you consider yourself a beginner, that means you probably don’t have a lot of makeup experience, you don’t really like wearing a ton of makeup, you might not have the confidence to do anything beyond mascara and lip gloss, or you don’t want to spend a ton of time on your face. I totally get it! And that’s ok! But the great thing about this makeup is that you don’t have to have a lot of makeup experience, you don’t have to use a ton of product, you don’t have to spend a ton of time to look and feel beautiful!

This is the best makeup for beginners because you can literally finger paint your face and blend with a brush and be done! It takes just a few minutes to highlight and contour your face! It’s the best! This makeup is cream so it’s really fool proof! You can slop it on and blend and it’s super easy.

What You Need to Start

As a beginner, you probably just want to start with the basics. As you get more practice and learn to love the makeup, you can add on extras over time if you want. The basics to start include:

• Highlight- this is your foundation color and matches your skin
• Contour- this is a dark brown that will add shadow, dimension, and shade to your face to give you a feminine look
• Lip & Cheek- this is your blush and lip color
• Illuminator- this adds a pretty glow to the tops of your cheekbones
• Brush- it is key to have a good brush to apply this makeup! I think the absolute easiest brush to use is the Bronzer + Blush Brush. You apply the makeup with your fingers and blend with the brush.
• Sponge- a damp makeup sponge can help you get a flawless finish! After you’ve applied and blended your makeup with your brush, use the sponge to really blend by dabbing and patting it all over face.

Where

• Above your cheekbone- take your finger and dip it into the illuminator and simply apply it to the top of your cheekbone, focusing on the top part, nearest your eye.
• Bow of your lip- add just a little bit of illuminator right at the part of your lip that is directly under your nose, the bow.

Choose a Section

Once you click “Shop” it will take you to a page where you get to choose where to begin! There are more options than just shopping (How To, About, Find An Artist, and Become an Artist) but if you just wanna shop, then get to it girl! These are the sections that you will be interested in:

This will show you all of the newest Maskcara products…it can range from foundations colors to tools to skin care.

Palettes

This will give you 3 options: Face, Eyes, or Custom. The Face and Eyes are already prebuilt palettes that you can easily choose and add to your cart. But if you want custom colors, then you can choose the Custom option.

Face

Under this section, you can click right on “Face” and it will take you to some palette options. You can choose the Foundation Palettes option that will give you prebuilt compacts to make the process easy. Or you can choose a Custom Palette where you get to decide which colors you want. Welcome to Beauty Basics! As part of the Beauty Basics course, I am going to teach you all about highlight…Beauty Basics Highlight 101! My beauty routine consists of using the Maskcara makeup foundations (highlight, contour, blush, and illuminator). Applying your highlight color is an simple step to your beauty routine and you can easily learn how to perfect it!

The purpose of highlighting is to even out your skin tone, cover up blemishes and hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation, and to brighten your face in the right places.

Areas to Focus

When applying the highlight color, I like to focus on 5 places:

• Under the eyes
• On the nose
• Under the nose
• On the chin
• On the forehead

How to Apply

As you apply your highlight color with your brush, do so in a dabbing or patting motion. If you wipe the product, it can appear streaky. By dabbing and patting the cream into your skin, the product lays nicely on the surface and gives it a smooth and natural finish. It also gives more coverage this way.

More Than One Highlight

Some women may need to use more than one highlight color. Sometimes our necks & chests are different shades than our face or sometimes our faces have different shades in different areas. By using more than one highlight color, you can mix and layer to give it a more natural look. You want your face, neck, and chest to coordinate and appear similar in shade. If your neck and chest appear darker than your face, then you could apply a darker highlight on your chin to blend the two skin shades. And vice versus. You want one cohesive look. It is a flattering look to have a lighter shade under the eye area to give your face a brighter look.

Applying your highlight correctly takes practice. And figuring out the right shades takes trial and error. Your skin also changes shades throughout the year, so you may need to use different highlight colors during different times of year.

With these simple steps and with practice, you can master the art of applying highlight!

New Mom Before and After

Meet Helen! She’s a mom to 3 beautiful girls. She just had her third girl a few weeks ago…at home and totally not planned that way! She’s a rockstar! Being a mom of a newborn leaves you feeling extra tired and with little time to think about yourself as you’re constantly nursing, changing diapers, cleaning, cooking, and chasing after your other littles. Mom life is not glamorous but it is definitely rewarding! I wanted to give Helen a quick and easy look that she can easily do to make herself look beautiful on the outside, because she certainly is a beauty on the inside! Here’s a new mom before and after look…

Helen was blessed with pretty freckles and we didn’t want to cover up that natural beauty. So I used a light hand and focused the highlight mainly under her eyes to cover up the sleepless nights. Her freckles still shine through beautifully! I used olive as her contour because it is such a versatile contour color! It brought out her cheekbones nicely and gave her some good shape to her face. Pink Grapefruit is also a great versatile color and brought a nice flush to her cheeks. She has pretty blue eyes so I went with some brown eyeshadow colors to bring out those blues. A thin coat of mascara gave her some natural looking black lashes. By using a light brown eyeshadow color and the Multitasker Brush, I filled in her brows to give them more definition and to help frame her face. We topped the look off with a light color on her lips and she was done!

This is a great natural look that gave this new mom a fresh & easy pick me up. This makeup is so versatile and can be applied lightly or heavily…depending on the look you want!

How to Apply Concealer

I think every woman has at least one part on their face where they want to conceal and cover up just a bit. Whether that’s hormonal blemishes, scars, hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, dark circles, melasma, or some other type of imperfection. And imperfections are a-ok! Nobody is perfect so we should embrace our differences! But, there are times when a little concealer can make us feel and look a little more beautiful. Here are some tips on how to apply concealer…

Highlights

Maskcara highlights come in a range of colors from light to dark. Depending on what you want to cover up, there is a color that is bound to help!

Covering Up Redness

Do you have redness on your face from a pimple, broken capillaries, rosacea, or from something else? Then using a highlight color that cancels that redness out is key! Sunlit & Wheat are great options for highlight colors that will help cover up those red spots. When using a highlight color as a concealer, it’s important how you apply it. Dab the color on the redness first, let it sit and set, then layer your normal highlight color over the area. You don’t want to use wiping motions, but dabbing and patting. Lightly blend with your Perfector Sponge.

Covering Up Darkness

Do you have dark circles under your eyes or any dark spots on your face? Then a darker highlight color will help cover up the discoloration. Mango is great for covering up the darkness. First you apply Mango in a patting motion with your brush (The Multitasker Brush or the Detail HAC Brush) on the dark area and then layer with your normal highlight color. Again, make sure not to wipe away the color, but dab the product on. Then you can blend nicely with your Perfector Sponge.

Brightening

Using a lighter shade like Moonlit, White Peach, or Aura can help brighten your face. If you have darker circles, you can first apply a darker shade like Mango, and then layer with a lighter shade to give your face a nice bright look.

Hopefully these concealer tips will help you feel more confident in your skin! Trial and error is key…sometimes you just need to try a few different techniques and colors out to see what works best for your skin. Good luck gorgeous!
