Making The Connection Between Self Care & Mental Health

I know it sounds sappy, but beauty really does come from within. You can buy all the skincare and makeup products and hope for a huge transformation, but unless you are happy with who you are on the inside, your beauty will never truly shine. Let’s dive into how self care can help you look and FEEL beautiful, from the inside out!

Self Care for Internal Beauty

Here are some things you can do to help yourself feel good on the inside:

  • Have a good morning routine. About 8 years ago I read this book. And it changed my life! It helped me understand the importance of a morning routine. It taught me to take time to read, pray/meditate, visualize, affirm, exercise, and write. Especially incorporating affirmations and visualizations will help you believe you have potential. Our minds are powerful and it believes what we tell it to believe. By starting your day with a solid morning routine and affirming and visualizing the life you want will help you shine!
  • Exercise. We all know it’s good for us, but we have such a hard time fitting it into our busy schedules!! But maybe you haven’t found the right form of exercise. Or maybe you haven’t truly understood the importance of it. Because when you do, you’ll make the time for it! That was me just 2 years ago. I hated exercise and found all the excuses why I didn’t have time for it. Until I found a routine that I looked forward to! For me, weight lifting and walking bring me joy. Find what you love and stick to it. Commit to moving your body so you can feel good. It’s so much more than for your physical health. It’s also for your mental health!
  • Set goals that will help you make progress. Whether you want to make weekly, monthly, quarterly, or yearly goals, find the right time frame that helps you work towards progress. If you aren’t doing anything to improve your life, you’re actually moving backwards. Find something in your life that you want to learn, grow, improve. You can start small, but have some goal to work towards! The 12 Week Year is a great book about goal setting!
  • Read books that will expand your mind. If you never take the time to expand your mind, you will be stuck. But as soon as you open your mind to new ideas and thoughts and potential, you will start to grow! You’ll want to learn. You’ll want to improve. You’ll want to do things differently.

And if you haven’t already bought my book, now is the time!! It’s all about having the confidence to change. It’s a quick and easy read that will inspire you to take action in your life to live the life you want.

Self Care for External Beauty

Once you are taking care of your mental health, your physical health also needs to be a priority. It makes a difference when you take time to care for your body every day. God gave us one body each to live with for our life. And we must take care of it!

  • Take care of your body by having a daily skincare routine. You only have one set of skin. If you want to feel and look good, you must do more than rinse it with shampoo when you’re in the shower. Commit to a simple skincare routine of cleansing, toning, and moisturizing daily to have healthy skin. And as you get older, it’s even more important to level up your skincare routine.
  • Get ready everyday: skincare, makeup, hair, get dressed. You will notice a difference in how you feel mentally when you take time to get yourself ready instead of just roll about of bed and stay in your pjs all day. It matters. Washing your face, brushing your teeth, doing your hair, putting on some makeup, and getting dressed will help you FEEL better and look better.

I really do believe that when you feel good, you do good. When you take the time to take care of your body and mind, you will feel better about showing up to serve and connect with others. You must put your own oxygen mask on first before you can help others. So invest in yourself so you can illuminate from the inside out!
