How to Simplify Your Cleaning Routine

Raise your hand if you’re busy! Raise your hand if you just don’t have time to do all the things…especially clean! We all have busy lives and things we would much rather be doing than spending our precious free time cleaning. Having 4 kids makes for lots of messes and lots of disorder. I’ve learned a thing or two over the years that have made my life easier when it comes to cleaning. Here are some easy tips how to simplify your cleaning routine!
Schedule
Life is so much easier when you have a schedule to stick to. Scheduling can take the guess work out of when things will get done. Set aside times to do laundry, clean the bathrooms, vacuum, dust, or any other regular household chores. When we had a dryer (yes…you read that correctly…we do NOT have a dryer in New Zealand!!) I would have one day a week set aside for laundry. I could do lots of loads in one day and be done for the week. I can’t do that now since I have to rely on the air to dry our clothes and have limited hanging space. Now I just do laundry as needed but I make sure to put a load in the washer the night before and it’s ready to hang the next morning. But it is still so important to stick to a schedule so you don’t have to think about it and everything gets cleaned regularly.

Cut Back on Products
Find cleaning supplies that do more than one thing. I especially love cleaning with essential oils. My favorite essential oils are DoTerra and I’ve been using them for years. They’re safe, concentrated, and multi-purpose. The OnGuard cleaning concentrate is so great for cleaning the bathroom or the kitchen or the floor! Having less products means less storage and less brain power to think what gets used for what!

Clean Up as You Go
If you clean up as you go, you won’t have such a big mess to clean up when it comes to cleaning time! We always make sure that our home is straightened each day and that the kids have put all of their toys & belongings away. After a meal, clean up the kitchen. After a project, clean up! After a spill or mess, clean up! Cleaning up small messes more frequently is much easier than cleaning up a huge mess less often.
Delegate
As my kids have gotten older, I’ve learned to delegate! I have my 3 sons doing the laundry, wiping down the bathrooms, and vacuuming as well as dishes, setting & clearing the table, and emptying the dishwasher. Start them young! I have them do daily chores but then I deep clean once a week. It’s great to have them learn how to work and clean properly and it also cuts back on my work too…win win!
I feel happier and more at peace when my home is in order. It is so important to have a clean home, a home where you feel comfortable and where you want to be. Your home is your sanctuary, so why not take good care of it? Hopefully these simple tips will help you simplify your cleaning routine and get you on track to a more peaceful home!
