It can get so overwhelming with all the trends, colors, cuts, styles, and fashions we’re bombarded with daily! Where do you start? How do you know what to buy and what looks great on you? Here are some tips to simplify your style so shopping and getting dressed is not an overwhelming and stressful process. Life is really so much better when you get back to the basics and simplify!
Understand Your Body Shape
One of the most important things to realize before you go shopping and invest in new clothes is to know what type of body shape you have! Knowing this will cut back on wasted time and money on clothes that won’t flatter your figure.
I have a great resource to help you figure out what body shape you have! It’s called “Your Body Shape Style Guide”. It’s an eBook that is straight forward, simple, and an easy read that gives you direction in finding out how your body was made and how to best dress for it. You can find it HERE.
Know What Colors Look Great on You
Along with knowing what type of body you have, it’s also important to know what colors look great on you! I’m a firm believer that if you feel great in it, wear it! You can make your own fashion rules. But, I also believe that there are colors that look better on you than others! Depending on your skin coloring, there are colors that just make you shine! Don’t you want to wear amazing colors and not just blah colors???
Knowing what colors look beautiful on you will save you time and money! You can walk in a store, scan for the colors that you know work well for you and browse through those instead of spending hours wading through ALL THE THINGS! And you’ll also be able to stay strong and not be tempted to buy the pieces on sale that are colors that you know don’t work well for you! It’s a win win!
I have en eBook called “Your Color Match Closet Guide” that walks you through what colors will look great on you! It’s a simple guide and an easy read to help you figure your colors out! You can find it HERE!
Create a Closet with a Color Scheme
Along with knowing what colors work well for you, it’s great to create a closet around a color scheme. If you have a closet with every color of the rainbow represented, then you’re going to have a closet full of clothes with nothing to wear! But when you put some strategy into what colors you invest in, then you’ll be able to mix and match to get so many different looks!
This will cut back on your closet clutter. You’ll be able to have a smarter and simpler closet that isn’t overwhelming. And that’s the best kind of closet to have!
Invest in Versatile Pieces
When you go shopping, try to envision how to style something in at least 3 different ways before you buy it. You don’t want a closet full of one-timers in your closet! If you buy random pieces that can only be worn in one way with one certain pair of pants or shoes, then you’re either going to have an overflowing closet or closet full of clothes with nothing to wear! Be smart! Stop and think before you buy. Take time to picture if you can wear that item in multiple ways.
Invest in High Quality Pieces
If you want a simpler closet, then stop buying cheap clothes! Stop buying those pieces that are poorly made and that will fall apart after just a few wears or one wash. When you invest in high quality clothes, they’ll last longer! And that means less shopping and time wasted replacing pieces in your closet!
Stop buying those crappy pieces and start buying better pieces. Yes, you’ll have to spend more money, but in the long run you’ll save money because you’ll have those items for longer and be able to wear them more often! Start buying pieces that are timeless and basics so you can mix and match. It’s such a great way to simplify your style! You can read about how to invest in high quality pieces on a budget HERE.
