I get it. Blush can seem scary. It can seem like only grannies and actresses wear it to really stand out! But anyone can wear blush! When done right, blush is a great way to add a youthful flush to your face. Let’s break it down so you can feel confident in giving it a try!
How to Apply Blush
When applying rouge, it really depends on what kind you’re working with to know how to apply it. If you’re using powder blush, then it’s best to use a brush to apply and blend. If you’re using cream blush, you can apply and blend with your fingers or you can use a brush.
Where to Apply Blush
There are a few different ways to apply blush:
- Apples of your cheek- This is the most popular and classic way to apply blush. Where are the apples of your cheek? Smile. The squishiest part of your cheek is the apple. You can apply blush on that full part and blend into your cheekbone.
- Top of your cheekbone- You can also apply blush on top of your contour that is on your cheekbone. This is the trendiest way to apply it these days.
- W shape on your face- The most youthful way to apply blush is to start at your cheekbone, swoop down past your apple, swoop back over your nose, and mirror the process on the other side. This is a W shape and makes it look like you’ve been in the sun all day.
- Where you naturally flush- The most natural way to apply blush is to take note of where you naturally flush. Look at yourself in the mirror without makeup on after a workout, after a shower, or when you’re hot. Where are you naturally flushing? Apply blush there!
How Does Blush Placement Change your Face?
Where you apply blush can really make a difference in how you look! Here are some tricks:
- Fuller Face- if you have a fuller face, you can apply blush in a way that will thin it out and lift your cheekbones more. To do this, the best way to apply blush is to apply it on top of your cheekbones.
- Thinner Face- if you have a thinner face and you want to add fullness to your cheeks, the best way to apply blush is to apply it on the apples of your cheeks.
How to Apply Cream Blush
There are 3 types of blush: powder, cream, and liquid. The most popular kinds are powder and cream. I personally think that the most natural type of blush is cream. Cream makeup blends beautifully into your skin and gives you the most natural appearance. But how do you apply cream blush? Here are a few ways:
- Fingers- You can use your fingers to apply and blend your blush. To do this, swipe your clean fingers into the cream and then apply it directly to your skin. Then use your fingers to blend the cream into your skin.
- Brush- Swipe a brush into the cream and then take the brush and blot, dab, press the makeup onto your face. Then use the brush to blend it nicely into your skin.
- Both- You can use your fingers to place the blush exactly where you want it on your face and then use a brush to blend it beautifully into your skin.
What Color Blush Should I Wear?
This is a great question! The color blush you wear really does matter. If you have a warm skin tone, then stick to warm blush colors. If you have a cool skin tone, then stick to cool blush colors.
