You’ve heard that you should tone your face as part of your nightly skin care routine, but is it really necessary??? Well, I’m here to tell you that yes, yes it is! I’ll let you in on why toner is important and how to use it so your skin can be extra healthy and happy! And who doesn’t want happy skin?? I know I do!
Why You Need to Use Toner
Why is toner important and why do you need to use it? Let me break it down for you. When you wash your face with your cleanser, it cleans your face but it also strips your skin’s natural oils. Toning helps balance your skin’s pH levels (your skin’s acidity & alkalinity levels). I can also help reduce your pore size, refreshes your skin, and acts as a second cleanser. Doesn’t that sound good? It’s such a simple step in your skincare routine, but it can be so beneficial.
- Balances out your skin’s natural pH levels
- Reduces your pore size
- Refreshes your skin
- Acts as a second cleanser
When Do You Apply Toner?
There are a lot of steps in a good skincare routine so it can get a little confusing knowing what order everything should go. Here are the steps to apply your skincare products:
- Cleanse
- Exfoliate (1-3x a week)
- Tone
- Serum
- Face oil/elixir
- Eye cream
- Moisturizer
It might be time to spring clean your skincare routine and commit to taking better care of your skin!
How to Use Toner
The first step in your skincare routine should always be cleansing. Once your face is nice and clean, you use toner. There are a few ways you can apply toner:
- Spray your face directly
- Spray your hands and then pat the toner onto your face
- Spray a cotton pad and then wipe the cotton pad on your face
It doesn’t really matter which way you do it, it’s a matter of preference. When you use a cotton pad to apply your toner, it can act as an additional cleanse. To do this, simply spray the cotton pad (I prefer to use reusable cotton rounds) with a few squirts of toner and then wipe your entire face and neck with the pad. Then take a look at that cotton pad. It will have any dirt, product, or oil residue that was missed from the first cleanse. If your face wasn’t clean before, it will definitely be now! But if you already do a first and second cleanse in your skincare routine, the cotton pad method isn’t as necessary.
What is the Best Face Toner?
What is the best face toner?? When picking the best face toner to use, you want to make sure you use one that is gentle for your skin and works well for the type of skin that you have. I prefer to use skincare that truly heals and helps my skin shine! Here are some great options:
- F11 Activating Facial Toner
- F67 Corrective Facial Tonic
- Seint Toner
- Rose Water or Thayers Witch Hazel– If you have sensitive skin, then either of these options are great for you. They are very gentle and natural.
