Whether you want a quick everyday look or you’re just trying to understand where eyeshadow is actually supposed to go, this beginner-friendly eyeshadow tutorial will help break it down step-by-step. The goal isn’t perfection. It’s learning how to create soft definition, brighten the eyes, and feel more confident applying makeup in a way that works for your features and eye shape.

What You Need for Eyeshadow Tutorial for Beginners

In order to get a great eyeshadow look, it really does matter what tools you have! But that doesn’t mean you have to have a lot of them! Just have a few in your collection that will work hard for you and that will give you the look you want. My absolute favorite eyeshadow brushes are the Eyeshadow Brush and the Smudge Brush. Both are so great and so easy to use. With just those eyeshadow brushes, you can get so many simple looks!

Along with good tools, you will also need quality eyeshadow. Not the cheap dollar store eyeshadow that doesn’t have any pigment. I’m talking high quality color that will last forever and that will give your eyelids the pop they need! Seint eyeshadow is the best, in my opinion, because it is highly pigmented, a creamy powder, and it will last FOREVER! Plus, each tin is magnetic so you can mix and match your favorite eyeshadows in your custom compact to have exactly what you want in there. Beginner Eyeshadow Techniques

When it comes to beginner eyeshadow techniques, there are a few methods to play around with. Here are the easiest to begin with:

• Wash Method
• Windshield Wiper Method
• Brightener Method
• Ombre Method

Wash Method

If you have a little bit of time or if you’re a simple gal or if you only have one eyeshadow shade you love or you just don’t like a lot of fuss, then the wash method will be your friend! With this method, you only need one eyeshadow color and an eyeshadow brush. That’s it.

Take your eyeshadow color and your brush and apply the color on most of your eyelid. Start at your lash line and go until your eyeball ends into its socket. Just wash that color over the lid to give it some nice color. And that’s it. Seriously. Simply swipe some color on and be done. This will give your eyelids some nice color without any fuss. Boom.

Windshield Wiper Method

If you have a little more time or if you want a little more dimension or if you have 2 colors you want to use, then grab a second darker eyeshadow color. After you do the wash method, take the larger end of your brush and apply the darker eyeshadow color right where your eyeball ends and your bone begins. Right in that socket. Simply take the brush and use a windshield wiping motion back and forth to add dimension.

The more your swipe, the more blended it will be. Keep doing it and adding color until you’ve achieved the look you want.

Crease Method

This method is a little more involved, but still totally doable! Take a medium shade and apply it as the wash method all over your eyelid. Then take a little dark shade and apply it in and above your crease. If you want more definition, take a dark shade and apply it in a sideways v shape in the outer corner of your eye and blend it into the crease. Top the look off with a light color under your brow and on the inner corner of your eye. 

Ombre Method

This is the coolest eyeshadow method because it looks like you’ve spend a ton of time but it is so stinkin easy! You need 4 colors, ranging in dark to light. Apply the darkest color on the outer part of your eye.  Apply a medium color on the middle of your eye. Apply a light medium color on the inner part of your eye. Then blend, blend, blend! Top your look off with a light color under your brow and on the inner corner of your eye. Super easy! 

Learning how to apply eyeshadow takes practice, but don’t let that discourage you. Even professional makeup artists started as beginners once. The more you practice blending, placement, and working with colors that flatter your eyes and skin tone, the easier it becomes. And honestly, simple usually looks the most beautiful…especially on mature skin.

Remember, makeup is meant to enhance your features, not hide them. You don’t need complicated techniques or dozens of products to create a soft, flattering eye look. A few good shades, gentle blending, and confidence in your application can go a long way.

And most importantly? Have fun with it. Makeup should feel creative, empowering, and enjoyable…not stressful.

How to Get the Look

After you’ve got your eyeshadow colors (Rome, Mama, On Wednesdays, and Oak), follow these steps:

• Take the fluffy end of your Eyeshadow Brush and brush Mama over your entire eyelid for a nice natural base layer.
• Then take On Wednesdays and wipe the color in the entire crease of your lid with a windshield wiping motion. Wipe it back and forth, making sure to blend well.
• With the smaller end of your brush, take Oak and create a V shape in the outer edge of your lid. You can flip over your brush and use the fluffy end to blend.
• Top the look off by applying Rome on the brow bone area and inner corner of your lid.

How to Get the Summer Eyeshadow Look

To get this easy breezy summer eyeshadow look, you will only need: Stardust, Crush, and Sabrina and the Eyeshadow Brush.

• Take Stardust and apply it to your eyelid with the smaller end of your brush. The smaller end can help you get a good amount of color right where you want it. Because of its dense side, it can apply more color directly. Make sure to get a good layer of that shimmery shade on your lid.
• Then take Crush and swipe it into your crease using the large end of your brush.
• To add a nice brightening look to your lids,  finish the look off with applying Sabrina under your brow and inner corner of your eye. That’s it!!

Sometimes you just want to dress up your eyes! And this pot of gold eyeshadow is just that! It’s a beautiful, but easy way to enhance those beautiful eyes that you’ve been born with! And here is how you can do it!

Process

To get this look, use the large side of your I Shadow Everything Brush to apply Bubba on the main portion of your eyelid. Then take As You Wish and swipe it in the crease, back and forth to give your lid some dimension. Next, use the small end of the brush to apply Gilded to the outer corner of your eye in a v-like shape. If you want more color showing on your lid, then extend the shade out a little. This will give your eyes more drama. Top the look off by adding Crush just under the brow and inner corner of your eye to add some brightness. And that’s it!

Doing something different than your normal everyday wear on your eyelids can be overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be! By just using these four eyeshadow shades and by using just one brush, you can dress up those eyes so they stand out! Don’t be ordinary….shoot for extraordinary!

Simple Fall Eyeshadow Looks

Fall is such a cozy time of year! I love the changing fall leaves, the crisp autumn air, the beginning of the holidays, and the yummy pumpkin treats! It’s also a fun time of year for fashion and beauty! In the makeup scene, fall makeup tends to be darker and more dramatic than the spring and summer months. It can get daunting trying to come up with new ways to do your makeup and trying to stay on top of the trends. So, we’re here to help take that stress away and are showing you a few Fall eyeshadow looks! You’re welcome

Amazing Eyeshadows

In case you didn’t know, Maskcara has some pretty amazing eyeshadows! The colors, the pigment, and the size are all top notch, top quality, and top of the line! For real. Each eyeshadow tin holds 5g of goodness whereas competitors’ eyeshadows only hold 1.5-3g for more money! Not bad. Not bad at all!

Fall Colors

Great eyeshadow colors to wear in the fall time are browns, purples, greens, dark blues…any deeper and darker colors. It’s all about the amount you put on and the colors you choose. For these 2 simple fall looks, I chose browns and purple.

Fall Eyeshadow Looks

Bronze is a great fall color! Maskcara has some great bronze colors to choose from, but for this look I’m using Bright Eyes as the show stopper. First, I took my I Shadow Everything Brush and applied Bubba to the main part of my eyelid with the fluffy end of the brush. I used the smaller end of the brush to apply Bright Eyes in my crease. In a V-like shape I patted the brush along the outer edge of my eye along the lashes and then into my crease. Make sure to blend by wiping back and forth until the color is married. Then I took Sabrina and added it on my brow bone and inner part of my eye to add a bright highlight. Using the Mutlitasker Brush, I took Emerald City and applied it to my lashes area to mimic eye liner. For a more dramatic look, you can use the smaller end of your I Shadow Everything Brush to add more color.

This next look is a simpler and more neutral look. You can always add more color for more drama. I first applied Bend and Snap to the main portion of my eyelid with the fluffy part of the I Shadow Everything Brush. Then I took Kin and brushed the purple color in a windshield wiper motion, back and forth in the crease of my eyelid. I took Mama and blended the colors together and applied to my brow bone area. Using my Multitasker Brush, I applied Trust to my lash line to line the area.

Easy peasey! You can’t go wrong with these colors. If you’re nervous about adding too much color, work in layers. You can always add more or wipe away what you don’t like.
