When I was little, my hair was really hard to manage! My mom didn’t know what else to do so she decided to chop my hair. I remember looking in the mirror after she cut it and saying, “I look like Davy Crockett!” I was so so sad!
When I went to school the next day, I showed my buddy reader my new do. She was several years older than me and someone I looked up to. But when I turned around to see her reaction, I saw her laughing and making fun of my new haircut. I was devastated. I vowed that I would never chop my hair again!
Fast forward almost 20 years and I finally decided to try a shorter hairstyle again. And I LOVED it!! I hate that I let that girl’s reaction dictate how I styled my hair. But I’m glad I finally got the guts to get outside my comfort zone again. Once I chopped my hair in my 20s, I learned to love how quick and easy it is to style!
My hair length has ranged from a super short pixie to a long bob. I love how a pixie cut always helps you look like your hair is styled! But there are a few tips and some essential products to use when styling your short do. Here’s what works well for me and how to style a pixie from start to finish so your hair looks amazing!
Prep with Hair Oil
I won’t pretend to be a hair expert! Skincare and makeup are my strengths. But I have learned that a healthy scalp equals healthy hair! I’ve been using and loving this hair oil serum to nourish my scalp. I apply a few drops on my scalp and on the ends of my hair and really rub it into my skin and hair. I let it sit for at least 30 minutes and then I wash and condition my hair. My hair has become so shiny and my scalp has become to healthy!

Wash & Condition
I’ve tried lots of shampoos and conditioners over the years! L’ange and Amika work well for my thick and wavy hair. But my current favorite shampoo and conditioner are the ones from Olive Tree People that contain hydroxytyrosol in them. I’ve found them to strengthen, nourish, and help my hair shine! My hair has gone from dull to shiny again! Which is saying a lot since your hair is dryer and more brittle as you age!

Protect Your Hair
I prefer my hair to be straight, so I use a flat iron every day to get rid of the waves and curls in my hair. With so much heat applied to my hair, it’s important to protect it. I LOVE the Defend + Detangle from Harmonize Beauty!! For starters, it smells delicious! Plus, it helps smooth and tame my hair AND it protects it from heat. It’s the best!
After I have washed and conditioned my hair, I squirt this in my hair and comb it through to evenly disperse throughout my hair.

Blow Dry or Air Dry Your Hair
Once my hair is prepped, I either let it air dry or I use a blow dryer. I splurged and bought the Dyson Airwrap last year. I’ll be honest…I think it would be a great investment for someone with longer hair. But if you have short hair, I don’t think it’s worth the price.
Style Your Hair
Now that my hair is cleaned, prepped, and dried, I can style it! I absolutely love my L’ange flat iron! It heats up super fast, gets super hot, and helps style my hair so well. Plus, I love that it’s dual voltage so I can travel with it. It just takes me a few minutes to run the flat iron through my hair to get a nice look. Investing in high quality tools is key for a great hairstyle!
After I have straightened my hair, I finish the look off with the same hair oil serum that I started with. I put 1-2 drops in the palm of my hand and lightly brush my hands through my hair to tame any flyaways.

And that’s it! That’s how to style a pixie from start to finish and look and feel great! You can use these tips on your hair, no matter the length. I know that when I take the time to take good care o my hair, I feel better! And when I feel good, I do good!
