Silver or Gold – How to Determine What Jewelry Looks Best On Your Skin Tone?

Silver jewelry is trending but gold is also timeless and classic. Should you be wearing silver or gold jewelry?? How do you know what jewelry looks best on your skin tone?? Let’s dive in so you can look your best!

Should You Wear Silver or Gold Jewelry

First off, when it comes to style, there really are no rules. You create the rules. If you feel great in it, wear it! But, if you want to look your best and have what you wear help you shine, then there is a bit of strategy in the clothes, makeup, and jewelry colors you wear.

For the past few years, gold jewelry has been queen of the accessories! It’s been hard to find silver jewelry in the stores. But stylists are claiming that silver is trending and is making a strong comeback! In my opinion, silver never went out of style! Once I found out I have a cool skin tone, I only wear silver jewelry. I looks better on me!

But how do you know if you should wear silver or gold jewelry? The best way to determine what jewelry you should wear is by discovering whether you have a cool, warm, or neutral skin tone. This will help you know what colors look best on your skin coloring.

How to Determine Your Skin Tone

In general, you can determine whether you have a cool, warm, or neutral skin tone by this simple little quiz:

  • What are the colors of the vein on your wrist?
    1. Blue/purple
    2. Green
    3. In between
  • When you wear jewelry, which color helps you feel more radiant and glowing?
    1. Silver
    2. Gold
    3. Both
  • What colors help you feel more alive & beautiful when you wear them?
    1. Black and white
    2. Off-white and browns
    3. Both
  • What color hair do you have?
    1. Blonde, brown, gray, black or hair with ashy tones
    2. Strawberry blonde, red, brown, black or hair with golden tones
    3. A mixture or gray hair
  • What colors do you tend to wear and gravitate towards?
    1. Blues, greens, blue-greens, pink, purples
    2. Yellows, oranges, reds, yellow-greens, ivories, olive greens
    3. All the colors

Answers:

Mostly 1s: cool skin tone

Mostly 2s: warm skin tone

Mostly 3s: neutral skin tone

So, if you have a cool skin tone, silver jewelry will look best on you. If you have a warm skin tone, gold jewelry will look best on you. If you have a neutral skin tone, you can wear either one!

How to Style Silver and Gold Jewelry

Let’s pretend we’re back in art class in middle school. Think of the color wheel. Since silver is a cool color, it looks best with cooler colors. Since gold is a warm color, it looks best with warmer colors. Silver looks great with blues, greens, black, gray, white, purples, pinks. Gold looks great with earth tones, browns, creams, oranges, yellows, and reds. Think of that as you get dressed and wonder what color accessories you should be wearing with what clothing.

Can You Mix Silver and Gold Jewelry?

Yes! Mixing metals is a fun way to embrace both colors. If you are a gold fan through and through but still want to embrace the silver trend, then you can still wear your favorite gold pieces and layer them with some new silver pieces. It’s a great way to try a trend without investing in a whole new jewelry collection. And you can do the same with wearing mostly silver jewelry and adding in a few gold pieces. Have fun with it and let it be a way to express your creativity.

How to Determine What Makeup Colors to Wear

Finding the right makeup colors is key to looking your best! But it can also be tricky! Looking at the makeup product through the packaging or through a screen can be hard to determine what makeup colors will look good on you. If you have a warm skin tone, then peaches, warm pinks, and reds will look great on you. If you have a cool skin tone, then purples, cool pinks, and other cooler colors will look great on you.

But how do you really know what colors to invest in? It can be frustrating wasting time and money on makeup that doesn’t look great on you! As a certified makeup artist, I can help!

  • You can take the quick and easy color match quiz to generally see what colors will work for you.
  • You can head to the makeup Collections No 4No 8, or No 12 and click on “Find Your Shades”. Then scroll through the group of women and choose the level that most looks like your skin coloring.

Your blush, eyeshadow, and lipstick will be the most important colors you’ll need to understand whether you have a cool, warm, or neutral skin tone.

Cream blush is my favorite because it looks natural and adds a natural flush to your beautiful face! Check out the cream blush swatches so you can see what they truly look like.

Check out these eyeshadow swatches so you can see what the colors look like. And instead of wasting money on prebuilt eyeshadow palettes and buying colors that you don’t like, build your own custom eyeshadow palette so you look your best!

So, should you be wearing silver or gold jewelry?? It’s up to you! But, hopefully this guided you to know what color will look best on your skin tone. Remember, you are beautiful just the way you are =)
